Wild One!

I just LOVE first birthday parties. I love the way the birthday boy or girl looks at balloons with awe and wonder. And enjoys the tissue paper and wrapping more than gifts themselves. I love the adorable little cake the party kid gets. I love that they get to smash it to pieces, or not, as adults swoon over their every move. As a parent, I know the bittersweet feelings of a baby turning one - and I love a big celebration of that milestone!

This party was particularly special as it was celebrating my adorable youngest nephew! His momma wanted a "Where the Wild Things Are" party, and of course I was up to the challenge.

I really wanted a foresty feel for this party, and the way this desert table came together was definitely on point (ha, see what I did there?). I had this roll of moss I had used for a previous dinner party, and it was perfect here as well. In addition to the cupcakes and "wild things" creatures I made for here-and-there in the cupcakes, the logs completed the look.

I had fun creating this smash cake as well. Perfect for the Wild One. He did not disappoint in his smashing it to pieces. I couldn't help but show all the pictures in the slideshow. Because, really? Could he be any cuter?

The entry sign was my favorite to make. Hand lettering is something I love, and when my husband cut a tree out of our backyard I couldn't help but see their potential as elements to add to this forest inspired bash. And using it as the hanger of the welcome sign worked out to perfection.

Best first impression!

Welcome signs are always a must in my opinion. You want people to know where the party is, and be ready to join the party from the get go. Parties don't just start inside. All elements, including the outside and entry are important to

incorporate!

The collection of pics above show some of my favorite details of the day. From "let the wild rumpus start" at the door to "from far across the world they smelled good things to eat" at the taco bar to "a trick to tame the wild things" as the bubble and balloon party favors, incorporating the little gems of the book into this party was simple, but so adorable.
